
Now, we are going to approach a weight that we will grab with an underhand grip, like a curl bar or a dumbbell. Since we are gripping from below, the wrap will be applied from above the bar. This opposite-grip approach is what gives you two grip points, you hand, and the strap.
Using your dominant hand, assist your non-dominant hand with wrapping the strap around the bar, all the way around, over and over until all the strap tail is wrapped around the bar. and then using that hand, grab onto the wrappings, and the bar.
Now, with your dominant hand (which gets no help, because your other hand is already tethered to the bar), use your thumb and index finger to wrap the tail around the bar again. Clutch the bar and the wrappings, in the same manner.
Roll the bar toward you, tightening the straps until they pull on your wrists. If they are not tight, you won’t be getting leverage from your wrists to help you lift. The straps are not there to do all the lifting for you, just to help your hands out.
